Carnātic Rāgās Grāph

Welcome to Vishu's Carnatic Visualization!

This project let's you explore the Carnatic Melakarta Ragas and their derived Janya Ragas.

How to explore the graph?

1. Hover over notes on the chart to navigate a raga (From S to P to Ṡ).
• The Melakarta Raagam will be identified when you hover on the final Ṡ
2. Click on the Final Ṡ to explore the path's Melakarta Raagam
• This will give you the Melakarta Raagam and a list of Derived Janya Raagams
3. Click on any Raagam Name to play its Aarohanam and Avarohanam.
4. Play the scale on your keyboard: After selecting a Raagam, use the number row to play its notes. 3–0 = normal octave (S through Ṡ). Hold Arrow Up or Arrow Down with any key for extra octave shift.
5. Chromatic “between” notes: The letter row Q–P (below the number keys) plays the semitone between adjacent scale notes on top.

Other Features

• You can switch between Classical Chakra or Sequential Chakra.
• Click on a Raagam name to play its Aarohanam and Avarohanam.
